If 'We cannot log you in at this time' or 'You do not have access' errors come up when you are trying to log into your library account; read e-books or access articles online, it is often a sign that the AUT systems are not aligning (such as Active Directory) or that the right web authentication cookies to ID you as part of AUT for that web session have not been set up right.

Try these steps:

  • Search from the Library website instead of direct links to a publisher/resource. This helps set up web authentication cookies to give you access to paid library resources.
  • If off campus, log into https://distance.aut.ac.nz  before attempting to search the library website. If on campus try https://ns.aut.ac.nz. This aids access through the AUT firewall so that AUT's network doesn't block access.
    • DUO is needed for access to many systems. Duo is a two factor authentication tool to ensure secure access. IT help may be needed to set Duo up.
  • Clear web cookies, close all instances of the web browser and try again. Web authentication cookies can become damaged, corrupt, or they can pick up the wrong login details. Single sign-on can mean you don't get a chance to enter the correct login details. A fresh start can be needed.
  • Try a different web browser, such as Chrome, Firefox or Safari. Sometimes your individual set up of a web browser can interfere with the login details of other networks. Trying a different web browser from your usual one can fix such access issues.
  • Try changing your AUT network password (from https://distance.aut.ac.nz or https://ns.aut.ac.nz). The various systems can get out of sync. Changing password should force them to synchronise.
  • A new AUT ID card generated by Student Hub may help align systems and allow access. Sometimes an account does not get listed in the Active Directory and a new ID card can fix this.
  • Are you a Postgrad using your mock staff account (if you have one)? If you used it once in the past, the web cookie can linger and interfere with latter logins. One simple option is to use one web browser for the staff login, and a different browser for your student login.

The Advanced search via Ebsco under the Library Search box may still work for you as it uses different authentication. It does have different functionality.

If you are still having problems, contact library staff with details of what you have tried.
