Turnitin is a tool that checks for similarities between your work and other academic writing. This is to ensure academic integrity and avoid plagiarism.

We also provide Turnitin Draft Coach, a new tool on Microsoft Word online. Check your originality on Canvas (Your Library on Canvas) for a detailed guide to Turnitin Draft Coach.

When you submit your assignment in Canvas, it will automatically be filtered through Turnitin and your lecturer will receive the originality report. You may be able to see the report after you have submitted your assignment, depending on the settings your lecturer has chosen.

To submit an assignment, click "courses".

From the left-hand menu, click "Assignments".

Choose your file, then click "submit assignment".

To see the originality report, click on "submission details".

To view your Similarity Report, select the similarity percentage (in the example, there is a red lock = 100% similarity.)

Additional instructions are available on the Turnitin help page.

For PostGrad students see Turnitin help from The Graduate Research School.

Here are some videos explaining the similarity report
