A good place to start is Library Search.  When you have entered your search terms, you will notice on the left-hand side of your search results 'search refinements'. These refinements are very useful, especially 'Limit to scholarly publications', which includes peer-reviewed journal articles.

Other, more specialised journal databases also have a similar refinement (or limit) e.g. CINAHL: tick on ‘Peer Reviewed’ under ‘Limit your results’ before you enter your search terms.
